This is what I find sitting on my kitchen counter. It was covered in plastic wrap. So thoughtful of the generous little forker. It took me a while to catch on to this scheme, but my children will do this: leave a sliver of dessert after consuming the majority of it. I used to think it...

Mr. and Mrs.
Last week my firstborn child, Kaitlyn, was married in an intimate ceremony officiated by my sister. This milestone in our family’s life reminded me how amazing my children are, how close my family is and how incredibly lucky we are to welcome Kait’s husband, Chris, to our wolfpack. We are a family of jokesters.
¡Abandono!
I honestly thought that by the time my kids were in school, bedtimes would become easier. Boy was I wrong. It’s a real challenge for my teenagers to simply go to bed. I gain more information from my teens in the five minutes before their school night bedtimes than any other time of the day....
Broke the Mold!
Poor Elly. I found out that her brother, Logan, the kid who is ALWAYS looking to make a buck, swindled Elly out of $2 this weekend. Apparently he charged her for using his television… a television that belongs to me which I let Logan use FOR FREE! The stinker needed to be taught a lesson....
I’ll have the yellow kind, please.
Elly came home from school with this bottle of water. She explained that she had to create a personal label for her water bottle. She chose “Yellow Springs” as her label. Mmmm, yellow water.
Sometimes I AM chopped liver
I like to be liked, especially by my own children. I want my kids to think I’m amazing because mostly, I am! Yes, I sometimes let too much time pass between the boys’ haircuts and I refuse to buy Hollister clothes at retail price and no way in hell am I letting anyone have their...
Gopher-1, McGee-0
I looked out the window to see McGee staring into the yard from the deck. I thought it odd to find him in an upright position. Usually I find him exposing his tummy to the sunshine, sound asleep with his tongue hanging out of his mouth and his eyes rolled back into his head. (He...
Best joke I’ve heard in a long time
Okay, so this a computer joke that no one in my family gets. I’m desperate to share a laugh with someone who will! Knock knock. Who’s there. (long pause) Java. Bwahahahahaha! Someone. Anyone. Laugh with me!
“Yuck and Awe”
The kids found a snake and begged me to take photos of it. Yeah right. Nikon doesn’t make a lens long enough to coax me into snake photography, so Daniel took this photo which I happen to think is quite stunning. (Way to think composition, Dan! Way to know aperture and focal points!) Also, I am...
TOUCHDOWN!
The only thing better than running 40 yards for a touchdown is having your big brothers celebrate with you on the sidelines.
He thinks in terms of latitude and longitude
So we made the two hour drive to Daniel’s varsity game yesterday. Half way there we decided to stop for a bite to eat and by then Logan had fallen asleep in the car. When he sensed that the vehicle had stopped moving, he woke up, disoriented, and said, “WHAT IS OUR LOCATION?” Not “where...
I’m not gonna lie
Tomorrow is an exciting day for me. We are headed to a varsity football game about two hours northwest of home and meeting us there, because it’s close to his school, is Kevin. Not only that, but Kevin is coming home with us for the weekend AND Kait will be here, too. This means that...
My little T and E
We had our homecoming game tonight (it was a mild 51 degrees) and despite a close loss, some people had a blast. By the way, in previous years I would see boys doing this and think, “What kind of parents let their kids DO this?” and now I know.. Parents just like me.
Those Little Jackwagons!
We have raised the kids to be independent and self sufficient but this evening takes it to a whole new level. Look what I discovered via Facebook: Isaiah [my kid]: Just cut my hair. Arieanna: Cool post a pic Jennine [me]: WHAT? Jami: ?^ hahaha He was supposed to shower and go to bed. Guess...
INTERCEPTION!!
Isaiah got an interception and ran 65 yards for a touchdown. And then my heart burst with pride. I totally co-created him!
Because it makes the book more exciting!
Wish I could say I was surprised by this scene. Elly reads in the most unusual places, in the most unusual ways. She reads in trees, at exciting wrestling meets, in the car, on the bus, in the grocery store and even during meals. She’s the poster girl for Bookworms every where.
Missing Kait
Kait and Chris bought a house together. Their wedding is on June 4, 2011. I am so thrilled for her and at the same time, I’m going to miss my little girl, my firstborn child and my friend.
They’ve got spirit, yes they do.
Trust me when I say that no amount of begging, pleading or bribing could have made Logan and Dan wear a dress shirt and tie to school but it’s Homecoming Week and today is “Class it up” day. They asked me if they could wear this to school. You could have knocked me over with...
She’s a thinker
When Elly got home from school today I asked her to put her homework down for a few minutes to rub a painful muscle in my back. She’s pretty strong for an eleven year old and so I complimented her strength. “Mom, if you want a really good back rub, you should get me a...
Logan Rockefeller
I found out on Friday that my 14 year old son, Logan, has been working at a job for the last month. I had no idea. While I assumed he was on Facebook or on his coyote hunting message boards or googling images of Miley Cyrus on a stripper pole, he was actually researching a...
Seven
The kid is a beast. He scored four touchdowns in the first scrimmage of the year. The other team didn’t score at all. Luckily for you, Internet, I’m too tired to properly brag so I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. And Isaiah? Uff da. You made your parents proud!
