Book Work-out

reading-aerobics

As a part of their summer break from school, I have required the kids to stop whatever they are involved with to spend one hour of reading time each day. Most of my kids enjoy this quiet time and actually enjoy reading to themselves.

But not Isaiah.

Today I found him like this…reading upside down, wiggling his legs on a chair. He remained in this position for the entire hour.

If reading was an aerobic workout, he’d be all for it, and so he’s negotiated with his body to make it tolerable for him. It is fascinating to witness the compromise.

Who’s the thug?

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Having found a marker from the supplies the kids brought home from school at the end of the year, Kevin decided that he must use it in a way it wasn’t intended.

“Hey, Dan. You should let me draw a tattoo on you.”

“No.”

“Yeah, come on. It will be sweet.”

“No.”

“I’ll give you five bucks.”

“Yeah right. Like you have five bucks.”

“Okay. I’ll give you a dollar right now.”

“No.”

“You should let me.”

“No.”

“I’ll take you fishing with me next time I go.”

“Fine. You can draw a tattoo on me.”

And so this is Daniel’s water-based, bribery-induced, marker tattoo:

And God, if You are paying attention to this whole incident, please…please let Daniel catch a trophy Northern and Kevin, the smallest perch in the lake.

Amen.

Quote of the Month
I haven't trusted polls since I read that 62% of women had affairs during their lunch hour. I've never met a woman in my life who would give up lunch for sex. ~ Erma Bombeck

I am sincerely worried that if Obama wins, the checks and balances incorporated into our Constitution may not be enough to prevent a radical and irreversible diminution of our individual liberties because a confluence of factors has emerged to create a climate conducive to fundamental change. These factors are: a shockingly unknown candidate, whose. . .
  • Why the Left Wants to Change America
If you ask most supporters of Sen. Barack Obama why they so fervently want him to be elected president, they will tell you about their deep yearning for "change."And that, of course, has been the theme of the Obama campaign from its inception -- "change." It is the word found on nearly all the placards at Obama rallies. It is. . .

  • Obama and the Law
One of the biggest and most long-lasting "change" to expect if Barack Obama becomes President of the United States is in the kinds of federal judges he appoints. These include Supreme Court justices, as well as other federal justices all across the country, all of whom will have lifetime tenure.Senator Obama has stated very clearly what. . .
